Round 5 Newsletter

Fellow Glebeites,

There’s plenty to update you on ahead of an historic weekend for the club.

The Dirty Reds maintained their unbeaten start to the season, defeating St Marys 42-22 at Goddard Park on the weekend. Guildford’s loss to Mounties means Glebe-Burwood is now alone at the top-of-the-table after four rounds.

The details of Saturday’s win are as follows:

Glebe-Burwood 42 (Addison Demetriou 3, Jordan Topai-Aveai 2, Maverick Tweedie, Ahmad Ellaz tries, Demetriou kicked 7/7), defeated St Marys 22 (Christopher Aunese-Scanlon 2, Joe Vaegaau, Nathan Smith tries, Chad O’Donnell 3/4 conversions), at Goddard Park,

There were many strong performances, but the coach gave his points to:

3 – Jesse Marschke

2 – Latrell Schaumkel

1 – Willis Meehan

So after four rounds we’re on 8 points, ahead of Asquith on 7 points, Guildford 6 points and Mounties 5 points. It’s been a great start to the season. Well done to coach Aaron Zammit and everyone who has pulled on the Dirty Reds jersey so far this season.

DIRTY REDS MAKE THEIR HENSON PARK DEBUT

It’s hard to believe, but this Saturday, the Dirty Reds will make their first-ever trip to Henson Park! Although Glebe and Newtown were both foundation clubs, the Bluebags didn’t make Henson Park home until 1936 – almost 7 years after Glebe exited the competition.

All that will change at 3pm on Saturday afternoon when the Dirty Reds host Hills District at the famous old ground. The match will follow the much-anticipated Frank Hyde Cup clash between Newtown and Norths. This match is the channel nine Intrust Super Premiership match of the day – hence the early kick-off, so the Dirty Reds will have the rare honour of running out after the Mighty Jets.

Aaron Zammit has once again named a strong side for Saturday’s match. It is:

1 Latrell SCHAUMKEL FB
2 Samiu LATU RWG
3 Lachlan STEIN RC
4 Tyla TAMOU LC
5 Jordan TOPAI-AVEAI LWG
6 Penani MANUMALEALII F/E
7 (c) Jesse MARSCHKE H/B
8 Malakai HOUMA LPR
9 Benjamin MARSCHKE HK
10 Eddie FAALUA RPR
11 George TSIKRIKAS LSR
12 Ryan KING RSR
13 Royce TOUT LK
14 Maverick TWEEDIE INT
15 Ahmad ELLAZ INT
16 Willis MEEHAN INT
17 Jesse OFFEN INT
21 Dominic TIMOTEO INT
22 Matthew JURD INT

Hills have won just one match this season, but did down Glebe-Burwood in both matches between the two sides last season, so it should be a hotly contested affair.

The Glebe Dirty Reds merchandise tent will be there on the day (in front of the King George V Grandstand) so pop out and pick up the latest Glebe merchandise.

Belrose Eagles and injuries

Glebe’s Fijian flyer Jowasa Drodrolagi has been selected in the Belrose Eagles side for Sunday’s Sydney Shield clash with Hills at Lionel Watts. He’s likely to be joined by Jokatama Dokonivalu who played his first game for 2018 with the Eagles last weekend. Former Dragons and Roosters prop Kem Seru is also a chance of playing after returning from paternity leave.

Ray Lesoa (illness), Jackson Garlick (sternum) and Latrell Robinson (ankle). All are expected back in round 6.

And congratulations to Addison Demetriou who has been called up to the Newtown squad for their clash with Norths!
